The Great Ririe Fire

"From what I've tasted of desire, I hold with those who favor fire."

Yes, everyone, John blew himself up. How you might ask? Well, I'll tell you. Just after John and I started dating, he invited me to his Aunt and Uncle's house up in Ririe, Idaho for a great bonfire. Never having been to a real one, John was excited to show me the ropes. He had been talking it up all day, "It's gunna be HUGE!! We've got three trees to burn!" When the time came I, admittedly, was psyched.
After John had set up the fire, his Aunt and Uncle announced that they had to leave for a last minute event. Being 21 and capable, they left John in charge of starting up the fire. After searching diligently, he found no matches and decided to use a lighter. **yes, I know many of you are shaking your head at this...** He filled up a can of gasoline and poured it on the pile of wood.
John backed everyone away from the pile and bent down. His thumb brushed the lighter and just as the small flame flickered, a powerful gust of wind carried it right onto the gasoline soaked branches! Immediately, the entire pile went up in flames, engulfing John in the process. He flew his hand up over his face to shield his eyes, and dropped the lighter - creating another small explosion behind him.
I looked on, terrified, as he walked (almost in slow motion) out of the ball of flames; the entire time thinking to myself "If he dies, I'll kill him." Luckily, he lived - and aside from seared flesh and a serious lack of hair on the right side of his body, there was no permanent disfigurement.
Last week we found out that October 9th is National Fire Prevention Day... Ah the Irony.

Mr. & Mrs. Viking

John and I also realized that October 9th is Leif Ericson Day! The one day a year dedicate to celebrating the world's most famous viking! Why is this important to the greatest day of our lives you ask? Because, as evident by the pictures below, John and I are secretly vikings - what?!?! Yes. We're always ready to pillage a village. We're epic like that.

**note: John and I were TOTALLY vikings waaaay before we even knew Leif Ericson Day existed...
